Octave Model Mandolins

Originally conceived as an F style instrument, the design evolved to what you see here.

The California black walnut is quite hard and stiff, especially considering the extreme degree of figure in the grain. The top is particularly stiff and resonant sitka spruce from southern Alaska, and the combination of these woods along with the particular arching and graduations produce lots of volume and complex cutting tone.

It is trimmed with high contrast ivoroid binding, ebony appointments, and gold plated hardware. The hand made tailpiece is designed to use ball end strings for ease of finding strings.
